Koh Samui holds many interesting discoveries, exotic surprises and exiting activities to fill your vacation with fun and joy. More than just luxury hotels, each offering its own diverse range of services and facilities like pampering spa treatments,health clubs, beachfront pools and beach clubs, the many things to do and see in Koh Samui might make you consider extending your vacation. Not embarking on several of the many sightseeing excursions and day trip activities will make your vacation incomplete. We strongly advise to plan your itinerary to at east some extend to fit in as much as possible. The many tour operators on the island makes it a breeze to arrange daily excursions. Alternatively, most hotels in Samui also offer this service.

Ang Thong Marine Park

Approximately one hour by boat from Samui lies a more than 40 small scattered islands grouped closely together, all uninhabited accept for one which is home to a small fishing community. This is the Ang Thing Marine Park and trips to this breathtaking location is conducted daily. Once your boat has dropped anchor you will have the opportunity to swim and snorkel amid these island, feed tropical fish which come to eat from your hand and be amazed by the coral formations only 2 or 3 meters below the surface. Part of the trip include stopping at Mae Koh Island where you can climb to a view point showcasing an emerald lagoon right in the middle of the island. There is also a second stop on a flawless deserted beach of one of the islands to allow swimming, sun bathing or kayaking to nearby lime stone formations.

Big Buddha Temple

At the top of a staircase, a 12 meter high statue of Lord Buddha presides over the temple grounds, hence the name of the area. Once at the top, views showcase amazing scenery of the beach and ocean and makes for great photo opportunities. At the foot of the stair case, a quint market featuring several stalls sells clothes, souvenirs, handcraft and other items. A Selection of rustic island style restaurants, some built against or over the water are great to enjoy lunch in a relaxed atmosphere while watching the surrounding activity.

Mommyfied Monk at Wat Khum Aram

A short 5 minute drive outside the town of Lamai is Wat Khum Aram (Wat being the Thai word for temple grounds). Encased in a glass casket outside the temple is Phra Khru Samathakittikhun, ex Abbot of Wat Kum Aram. A renowned devotee to Buddhist religion, Phra Khru Samathakittikhun died 35 years ago. His body never decomposed and he can still be seen today in the same upright position in which he died all those years ago.

Samui Waterfalls

Also not far from Lamai is Na Muang Waterfall 1 and 2 which can be reached with a hike through the forest, or to make it more adventurous you can make the trip on elephant back. Hin Lat Waterfall is a little more remote, but the 30 minute hike is rewarded by the highest of the three waterfalls and a large pond in which to swim.

Water Sports

Chaweng and Lamai are the two beaches most renowned for their water sport activities. Skiing, jet skiing, banana boat rides, Kayaking, kite surfing and wind surfing, it's all there.

Visit nearby Islands

Koh Phangan, home the full moon party is only a 40 minute boat ride away. This beautiful island retains a tropical charm and unblemished nature maybe even more than any other island in the archipelago. We suggest to not only make a day trip, but maybe even sleep over a night or even two. The island sports accommodation ranging from cheap backpacker venues to 5 star luxury. Approximately one hour away is Koh Tao, the centre of all diving activity in the Gulf of Thailand. Daily excursions are conducted here during which enough time is allowed for some swimming, snorkeling and coral viewing in Mango Bay. Part of the trip will include a stop at Koh Nang Yuan, a few hundred meters from Koh Tao where lunch is served after snorkeling or sun bathing. Nang Yuan is a miracle of nature and consist of three hills connected only be two narrow beaches. If you don't suffer from vertigo, it is highly advised you climb up to the view point. The view is simply amazing.

Tree Top Canopy Rides

This is as thrilling as the views are amazing when you are suspended in a harness attached to a high tensile cable many meters above mother earth sliding from one tree top to the next.

Golf Courses

The Santiburi Country Club in Maenam offers a world class 18 hole golf course set amid towering palm trees, lakes and rolling hills. Another is available at the Fairhouse Resort in Chaweng. Two driving ranges are also available of which one is conveniently located in Lamai.

Scuba Diving and Snorkeling

The ultimate scuba dive destination featuring a choice of Padi registered operators and also certified diving instructors is of course Koh Tao. However trips to Koh Tao and the surrounding diving spots are on offer daily.

Nightlife

The main nightlife scene is centered in Chaweng, though Lamai offers enough of its own nocturnal activity. From the main road in Chaweng which runs parallel to the beach, a horse shoe bend veers off which feature a magnitude of pubs, clubs, beer bars or whatever tickles your fancy. It's a party animal's dream.
